Speech and language assessment
A full look at your child’s speech, language and literacy, with a written plan you can use. Every child is different, so we don’t use a one-size-fits-all program. We use what we learn to build an individual therapy plan, tailored to your child’s strengths, needs and goals.
What we look at
- Speech sounds and how clearly your child is understood
- Listening to how your child says sounds in words (articulation)
- Sound patterns, and how consistently your child says sounds and words
- Mouth movements and coordination
- Understanding and using language
- Early literacy, reading and spelling
- Play, attention and social communication
Assessments we offer
- General speech and language assessments
- Standardised assessments
- Autism (ASD) assessments, using the ADOS-2
- Language Development Centre (LDC) applications
- AAC assessments
What happens
- Talking with parents or caregivers
- Learning about your child’s strengths and your family’s concerns
- Playing and interacting with your child
- Formal and informal assessment activities
- Discussing findings and recommendations
After the assessment
Your therapist will talk you through what they found, the goals they suggest and the next steps. You'll then get a written report, which you can share with your GP, school or NDIS planner. If therapy is recommended, we'll build a plan around your child's strengths and goals.
