Autism assessments in Perth

Our speech pathologists complete the speech pathology part of the autism assessment process in Western Australia.

How diagnosis works in WA

A team of three professionals

An autism diagnosis in WA needs a paediatrician, a psychologist and a speech pathologist trained in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2).

Our role is the ADOS-2: a semi-structured play session with your child and a detailed interview with you. We then work with the other professionals to agree on your child’s presentation.

  1. Get in touch

Book an autism assessment with one of our speech pathologists.

  2. ADOS-2 assessment

A play session with your child, a parent interview, and extra observations if needed.

  3. Team consensus

We liaise with the paediatrician and psychologist.

  4. Written report

A full report with recommendations for services and family support.

  5. Follow-up (optional)

Talk through the report with us.

Before you book

You don't need a paediatrician referral to book with us. A WA autism diagnosis needs three professionals: a paediatrician, a psychologist and a speech pathologist. We complete the speech pathology part at our Jolimont and Victoria Park clinics, and we work alongside a psychologist we can recommend.

On the day

The ADOS-2 is a relaxed, play-based session. Your child plays with the speech pathologist while we observe how they communicate and interact. We also talk with you about your child's development and what you see at home. If we need to, we may arrange extra observations, for example at day care or school.

Once all three professionals have finished, we agree on your child's presentation together. You'll receive a full report with recommendations for services and support, and you can book a follow-up to talk it through.
